Sure, it is easy to get fit when you can afford expensive equipment, gym memberships, videos and top of the line workout gear. But what if you are watching your money? Well, you have to get a little creative but it is entirely possible to get fit on a budget. Shape up while stretching your budget.
Home Equipment
You can have nice home equipment to work out without spending thousands of dollars. Our elliptical machine was gotten free for us on Freecyle. The original owners got a new one because this one made grinding noises. My husband was able to fix it, and we have a new to use nice piece of equipment.
Other places to find equipment for less includes Ebay, Craigslist, Play it Again Sports and thrift stores.
You can also make your own equipment. Milk jugs filled with water or sand can serve as weights, for example.
Gym Membership
If you really want a gym membership but don’t want to pay the expensive gym price, there are a couple of ways to save. First check with your employer or health insurance company. You may find that your gym membership can be partially or fully reimbursed. Also take advantage of free trials and promotional ideas to get the very best price.
Videos and Books
If you would like to do a video in private at home, hit the library. Even if your local library doesn’t have a great selection of fitness videos, you can usually take advantage of a intra-library loan program to “order” whatever you need. This goes for motivational books and audio books, too.
You can also check out free television and Internet resources, such as YouTube and OnDemand. You iPod or iPhone also has access to applications, many of them free, that will help you get fit.
The Great Outdoors
Take advantage of one big free resource to get fit: the great outdoors. From walking to running to doing chin ups at the park, your outside environment has plenty of opportunity for fitness. Remember Rocky?
Get one of those free circuit training videos as mentioned above and follow the program as you work out outside.
