Get Involved – Child Sponsorship

So many people have a place in their hearts for the orphans of the world, but for whatever reason don’t feel like adoption is a good option for their family – at least not at this point in their lives. This article is the first of a four-part series on how you can get involved in adoption and make a difference in the lives of orphaned children – even if you are not able to make the commitment to bring one into your home.

One great way to get involved with these precious children is through child sponsorship. With child sponsorship, a relief organization will connect you with a specific child that you will “sponsor” though a monthly donation. You will usually receive a picture of that child and may even be able to write them letters or send them small gifts. The money that you give goes to help provide food, clothing, shelter and an education for that specific child.

Why consider child sponsorship? Though it is hard to acknowledge, there are many more children in need than there are people who can adopt them. Many children will never find a forever family. They need someone to look out for them, to care for them and to help them develop the skills they need to have a future. Sponsorship is a wonderful and rewarding way to make a difference in the life of a child.

If you are interested in child sponsorship, there are a number of ways that you can learn more. Just be certain that you thoroughly investigate the relief organization that you decide to partner with. As questions about how the money is used and how much will actually go towards the care of the child. Also check with the Better Business Buereau or get references in order to be sure that the organization is legitmate and that they are good stewards of the money that is given to them.

Here are a few organizations that I am aware of, but as stated above always do your homework before sending funds.

If you have had a good experience with a specific child sponsorship organization, feel free to provide that information in the comments section.
