Getting out of debt can be an exciting journey and a worthwhile goal. Just imagine how free you will feel when you owe nothing and can basically live however you want to live. You’ll be able to keep all of that money that you current spend on interest on your debt and apply it to where you want it to go.
When you first start down the path of getting out of debt, you’ll want to make sure that you have some support systems in place. Not only will these support systems help you to stay motivated and to stay on track, but they will also make sure that you have the information that you need in order to make the right decisions. A strong and knowledgeable support base is key.
Support for getting out of debt can come in many forms. One of my favorites is through the Dave Ramsey programs. Through these programs, you can learn the steps that you need to take in order to get out of debt. Plus, you’ll get support from other members of the class at the same time.
While I like Dave Ramsey, there are other classes and programs out there, so do some research and find one that will work for you.
Support can also come in the form of friends and family. You need someone to help keep you accountable and to cheer you on to greater and greater goals. Ideally, if you are married, you and your spouse can act to work together to keep each other accountable. You can also ask a friend or other family member to act as a debt mentor for you. It is harder to lose sight of your financial goals when there is someone there to remind you.
Finally, you can go online for support. Start a getting out of debt blog or join a forum, such as the ones that are here on Families.com. Share your plans, your successes and even your failures. Friends all around the world can offer encouragement.
