The new year is a great time to rid yourself of big money drainers in your life. No, I’m not talking about your relatives! That is the subject of a different blog all together. I am talking about some key things that you might have in your life; things that you don’t need; and things that are draining your money? What are they and how can you deal with them? Read this article for more information!
There are plenty of things that can drain your money, but let’s focus on some big ones that can be easily resolved.
Storage Fees
Would you pay $3,600 for an entire yard sale full of common yard sale stuff that you would hardly ever use? Of course not. But if you have an outside storage unit, you could be paying that much or more, in a year, for all of your clutter that doesn’t fit in your home. Resolve to go down to your storage unit and clean it out. Chances are that most of the stuff in your unit can get sold or donated. If it isn’t in your home and you aren’t using it, then why is it a need? Any sentimental or valuable objects should be kept at home or in a safe deposit box anyway. Now I realize that temporary situations can come up that require the use of a storage unit. We used one ourselves when we moved.
Unused Memberships
Do you have a membership to a zoo, a museum or a fitness club that you don’t use? Why pay money if you aren’t getting good use out of it. I know someone who pays her fitness club membership faithfully every month. But, she has visited the gym only once in the last six months. To her, paying that fee is a way to keep in touch with her resolution to work out. To me, paying that fee is a waste of money. Memberships can save money, of course, if you actually do use them.
