So you want to lose weight but just can’t seem to find the time to exercise. After all, gyms are expensive, you’ve got kids running around, you’re busy, you’re tired, you’re…out of excuses.
The easiest way to get exercise is to walk. It’s a low-impact way to burn calories and to move your entire body. If you want to get walking but if kids, time, or anything else keeps you in the house more than you’d like, consider getting Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds videos. I bought one awhile back and can tell you from first hand experience that these videos are an amazing alternative to hitting the pavement and walking outside. There are three videos to choose from; the 1-mile, the 2-mile, and the 3 mile. Being an optimist myself, I opted to skip the 1 and 2 mile videos and went straight for the mother of all walks, the 3-mile workout.
Running approximately 47 minutes, Walk Away the Pounds utilizes simple movements to get your heart rate up and your muscles moving. The only steps involved are walking, front kicks, back kicks, knee lifts, and side steps. This makes it a great choice for people who cannot perform high-impact exercises. Arm movements are added in to increase the intensity and you can opt to purchase “walk away” weights for added resistance (though in my opinion, a couple of cans of Spaghetti-O’s works just as well).
Another good thing about exercise videos in general is that you can get your kids involved. Let them come in the room with you and boogie to the music. Teach them that it’s fun to be healthy.
If you’re looking to lose weight but are struggling to find the time to get moving, don’t sell yourself short. There are lots of things you can do at home or outside that require little time on your part. Start with just a few minutes a day and don’t beat yourself up if you tire quickly. You’ll build stamina over time. The important thing is to get moving, and the easiest way to do that is to start walking!
