If you’re like most people I know, you have a hard time getting exactly what you want for Christmas. I know we’re supposed to be grateful for everything we get, but let’s be honest. Wouldn’t it be easier to be grateful if you actually got what you wanted, instead of a doorstop in the shape of President Nixon? And don’t try to tell me that really is what you wanted – it’s a feeble story.
My husband and I have always been really open with each other on what we’d like to receive as gifts. When I first got married, I heard all these horror stories from women who could never manage to get a decent gift from their husbands. I decided not to take a chance, and I made a list for my husband of what I would like. I put several things on it so he could pick and choose which things he’d most like to give me, and I didn’t know which he’d chosen, so it was a surprise after all. He appreciated the fact that he didn’t have to guess, and I enjoyed the knowledge that I would be getting a gift I really wanted.
Amazon.com has taken this a step further and created a wish list on their site. I spent about an hour the other night creating my list, and now all my husband has to do is go on and see what I’ve selected. I can mark which items I would like the most, and there’s even a little box where I can put a comment for him to see while he’s checking out the list. And, best of all, it doesn’t show me which things he decided to buy, so it’s all a mystery to me until the Big Day. Just for fun, here are some of the things I put on my list:
If you’re a big Amazon fan (and who isn’t?) this may be the answer to all your holiday needs. Give it a try and see what you think.
