Get Your Ghoul On

If you haven’t bought your child’s Halloween costume yet, good luck. This year’s selection of costumes is downright scary. Honestly, you are better off making a costume from household items than paying upwards of $50 for the gross getups I’ve seen at big name retailers.

The money you save making your own costume can then be spent on hosting a rockin’ Halloween bash. Take it from me; you don’t need a ton of cash to throw a Monster Mash in your home. Just exercise some creativity with these budget-friendly ideas:

GAMES

Ghost Bingo: Make your own cards that spell out “Ghost” instead of “Bingo” at the top. Then, use candy rather than beans or daubers as markers.

Pin on Fun: Put a Halloween spin on the traditional Pin the Tail on the Donkey by hanging a picture of a black cat on the wall and having kids attach the tail. You could also come up with different versions, such as pin the pumpkin head on the headless horseman or pin the wart on the witch.

Pumpkin Pass: Separate guests into teams and have them stand in a line. The first person in line has to hold a small pumpkin under his chin and pass the gourd onto the next person in line without using his hands.

DESSERT

Halloween is the perfect time to put that Dirt Cake recipe to good use:

Ingredients:

One bag of Oreo cookies

1/4 cup of butter

8 ounces of soft cream cheese

1 cup of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

5 cups of milk

1 large container of Cool Whip

12 ounces of chocolate pudding mix

1 bag of gummy worms

Directions:

Place Oreos in a Ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

Pour the cookie crumbs into a mixing bowl.

In a second bowl, combine melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and the cream cheese. Mix well.

Slowly add in pudding mix and milk.

Fold in Cool Whip.

Pour the mixture into the bottom of a cake pan.

Sprinkle about half of the cookie crumbs on top.

Using a rubber spatula, combine the cookies and the pudding mixture in the pan.

Add the remaining cookie crumbs on top.

Place gummy worms in the top of the cake, so they look like they are digging around in “dirt.”
