Getting A Good Nights Sleep

What does your bedroom look like? Is this the room you stuff things in if you have unexpected company? Do you put things in your bedroom, until you can find a place for them? I know I’m guilty of that. I have books that need to be shelved, clothes that need to be donated, even a toddler bed that needs to go in another room.

Yes it’s inconvenient to have to walk around all of these things and as we all know, clutter seems to breed clutter. It’s much easier to put something in a room that’s already a little cluttered. If the room in question is neat and clean you are more likely to find the wayward item a home.

Did you also know that having a cluttered bedroom can interfere with the quality of your sleep? Doctors are taking a look at the level of clutter in the homes and mainly the bedrooms, of people who suffer from insomnia. One of the things they have found is that dirty bedding contributes to lack of sleep. If you snore when you finally doze off allergies may be contributing to that and if you aren’t changing your bedding often enough it contains dust mites and whatever you may have carried to bed on your feet and night clothes. In addition to changing your bedding frequently you should also vacuum your mattress and get new pillows every few months.

Being surrounded by clutter makes it harder for your brain to shut down when it’s time to sleep. This applies to electronic clutter as well. Having a television or computer in your bedroom may interfere with your body’s ability to fall asleep and may result in more frequent waking.

If you suffer from insomnia, clean your room! It can’t hurt and it just might help you get the sleep you need.
