Getting It All Done

What is distracting you from accomplishing the things that you want to? Do you have days that go by and you don’t accomplish one single thing that you wanted to? It can be frustrating when you feel that you are not doing the things that matter to you the most. If you are stressed out and overbooked, it can become even worse. Lately I have been struggling to accomplish everything I needed to, but I’m finally getting back on track. Here are the five things that helped me the most.

1) Put the most important things first. The first thing I do everyday is to pray. I pray to make sure my focus is going in the right direction. Next I read my scriptures. Sometimes I only have time to read for five or ten minutes, but it does make a big difference in the amount that I accomplish.

2) The next thing that I did was to recognize my biggest time drains. I was spending too much time surfing the Internet. Even though I felt that everything I was looking at was worthwhile, I realized that I was wasting time on this when I wanted to accomplish other things even more.

3) I also realized that I needed to take better care of myself. It is hard to get things done quickly when you are constantly exhausted. It is important to get enough sleep and to eat properly. Exercise can also help you to feel better and have more energy. Exhaustion not only affects you physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.

4) I realized that at times I was trying to accomplish too much. I would often not start on a project, because I felt that it would take too much time or that I would be unable to finish it in a timely manner. By cutting back to realistic expectations I was able to accomplish a lot more.

5) Finally I realized that some days I just needed to let go of what I could and could not accomplish. Life happens and sick kids need to be taken care, babies need to be fed and preschoolers played with. Ultimately these are the things that are most important to me anyway.
