Getting New Clothing at the Thrift Store

Don’t want to buy your clothing at the thrift store because the idea of wearing used clothing makes you ill? What if I told you that not only can you find new clothing at your local thrift store, but you can find new designer clothing, and can even turn your thrift store shopping into a business.

The biggest source of new clothing with tags at the thrift store are local and chain stores that donate substantial collections of new clothing in order to make room for the next season or style. For instance, Target generally makes large clothing donations to Goodwill stores.

While you can find new clothing at any time of the year, the months of November and December are the best times to find them. This is because the stores make the largest donations during these two months, motivated by inventory and the tax write offs that they will get for the year. Similarly, many regular households also make their biggest donations during these months, as they clean out their homes and look at their charitable donations for the end of the year. Most people do have several items in their closets that still have the tags on them. This is especially true for business attire, trendy clothes and baby and children’s clothing.

Not only can you use this clothing for your family or to give as gifts, but you can also turn it into a business by selecting good quality name brand pieces and reselling them online. Research auction site and clothing resale sites to learn pricing and the most sort after brands and types. You can often double or triple the amount that you might pay.

Smaller thrift stores usually offer the cheapest prices, so don’t forget to peruse church, hospital and other local charity thrift stores, as well as the larger national stores.
