Getting Rid Of Toxins

Every day we are exposed to hundreds of toxins. Everything from the food we eat to the air we breathe has toxins. I always feel as the mom and main housekeeper that it is my job to protect my family from harmful things in our home. There are some things you can do at home to minimize your family’s exposure to harmful things.

*Eat organic whenever possible. Look for produce that is grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. If you have a garden at home then you know exactly what your veggies are exposed to. A farmers market is also a great place to get pesticide/chemical free produce.

*Read food labels and avoid additives as much as possible. Be especially mindful of MSG, trans fats, artificial colors and sweeteners. These have been shown to cause behavioral problems in children. If you can’t pronounce it, it’s probably not all natural.

*Filter your tap water.

*Look for chemical free body products, use lotions and cosmetics with the fewest and safest ingredients. Remember your skin is your largest organ, whatever you put on it is absorbed by that organ. That is why hormones and even pain medication are given by patch sometimes.

*Fragrances for yourself and your home are full of harmful stuff you don’t want your family breathing.

*Use natural cleaning products. All that pine forest fresh scent is nothing but chemicals. You can clean without them.

*Get rid of Teflon, it can emit toxic fumes when heated. Funny that a product that is meant to be heated can release toxins when you heat it.

*Air out your home, even in the winter time, open doors or windows on opposite sides of the house, even if just for five minutes. Indoor air has a much higher concentrate of toxins than outdoor air.

A cleaner, healthier home is much more pleasant for your children, especially if any of them have asthma or allergies.
