“Getting Started” is a brand new track of presentations and workshops for beginning genealogists. It makes RootsTech 2013 very welcoming for people who have just started working on their genealogy, and who have a lot to learn. Here is some of what to expect on Day Two of RootsTech 2013.
RootsTech 2013 will take place on March 21, 22, and 23 of 2013. Each of the three days will have a lot going on, including special “Getting Started” presentations and workshops for beginning genealogists. If you are going to attend all three days, then you won’t miss a thing.
However, if you are getting the 1-Day Pass, it might be helpful to know a little bit about what will happen each day. Here are a few of the interesting “Getting Started” track presentations and workshops for Day Two of RootsTech 2013.
5 New Things to Try at Ancestry.com is a presentation for beginning genealogists. You will get a demonstration of the top five most recent additions to Ancestry.com, where to find them, and how to use them. It will be presented by an Ancestry.com speaker.
Interest in Pinterest for Family History is a presentation. The presenter is Valerie Elkins. She says that Pinterest is not electronic hoarding. You will learn how to use Pinterest to organize, plan, and save your family history research.
Online Genealogy Lab for the Absolute Beginner is a hands-on workshop. It will walk beginning family historians through some of the most popular online genealogy databases and websites. It will also point out tools and applications for recording, organizing, and sharing information.
Backing Up Your Genealogy Data will be presented by Thomas MacEntee. Learn the basics of backing up all of your genealogy data including identifying data, common backup methods. Learn how to use free online programs to back up your important genealogy data.
The Blog Blitz: Create Your Own Genealogy Blog in one Session Lab is a hands-on workshop. It will be presented by Lisa Louise Cooke. Learn why you should be blogging, how to set up your blog, and what SEO optimization is. Get some posting pointers, and some tips about social media synchronization.
The Paperless Genealogist: Myth or Reality? is a presentation. It will be presented by D. Joshua Taylor. Discover the benefits, and potential drawbacks, of eliminating paper from your family history routine.
