Getting the Balance Right

One of the biggest problems Christians face is getting the balance right. What do I mean by that? A criticism leveled at Christians from those outside the church is that Christians don’t appear to live what they believe. Their words or professions and actions don’t match up.

Of course, there are those who then go to the other extreme. They think that just by living the Christian life, they won’t have to say anything. It will be obvious to friends and neighbors that you live as you do, behave as you do and make the decisions you do because you are a Christian.

Your neighbors won’t necessarily make the connection unless you give them clues by talking about what you believe.
Otherwise they will think you are just a basically nice person.

Another aspect is balancing commitment. The overly busy Christian can be playing right into Satan’s hands if they are so busy with Christian projects they don’t have time for God. It needs to be words and lives together to convince people that Christianity is worthwhile and that Jesus is worth following. Even as I write those words I feel God convicting me of that at present. Maybe you do too?

Maybe you are one of those who doesn’t have time to pray and read God’s word to see what God wants to say to you because you are so busy doing things for God,. If you are then something needs to change sooner rather than later. We cannot work effectively for God unless we spend time with Him. That’s just a case of things being out of balance.

The reverse is that people spend so much time alone with God they are of no use in the world or as someone put it ‘They are so heavenly minded they are no earthly use.’ Is there somewhere this week you need to make changes in your life so that you are living a balanced Christian life?
