This idea can be used to make a charming table topper or to make a fun decoration for your child’s room. This holiday decoration will look adorable on top of your child’s dresser or desk, and it’s fun to make!
What you will need:
- Rubber ball
- Glue
- Ribbon
- Glitter
- Picks, pinecones, or other decorative items
- Artificial spruce or pine boughs (or a small wreath)
- Paint (gold or silver)
- Paintbrush
- Large jar lid
- Gold or silver chenille stems (pipe cleaners)
What you will need to do:
Spread out some newspaper or other protective material over your work surface. Crumple some paper to place around the base of the ball to keep it from rolling around.
Cover the top half of the ball with glue, spreading it out for a nice even coat. Sprinkle on glitter. Allow to dry and shake away extra glitter. Turn it over and cover the rest of the ball with glue and glitter. Alternatively, you can work in sections and make stripes or other designs with different colors of glitter if you desire. Just make sure each section is completely dry before moving on to the next.
*You can also cover the ball with wide ribbon or tissue paper instead of glitter.
Paint the jar lid with gold or silver paint. When dry, glue it face down to the top of the ball. This is where the ornament hook usually goes. You can fashion an ornament hook from a pipe cleaner. Glue it to the lid.
Arrange pine boughs or a wreath on the surface you intend to decorate. Set the giant ornament on top, and adjust as needed to keep the ornament in place. You can glue ribbons, picks, and other decorative items around the top of your giant ornament if you like and place some near the base so they peek out between the pine boughs. Adding tiny ornaments around the large one also looks cute.
