Gift Ideas For Your Child’s Teacher

It’s hard enough trying to find gifts for family and friends, for people that you know. But what about gifts for your child’s teacher? I talk to Tyler’s teacher every day but I don’t know her. I want to get her something nice but frankly I’m at a loss for what to buy her. My initial thought was to get her something school or teacher-themed but after 25 years of teaching I’m sure she’s had her fill of mugs and “you’re a great teacher!” paraphernalia. Tomorrow and Friday I plan to finish my shopping (I just started this week) and I have to come up with something nice for her as well as the foster grandmother who works daily in Tyler’s class. And oh, I forgot I need to get the P.E. coach something also.

So I searched the Internet to find some ideas on what types of gifts teachers like to receive. Here’s a sampling of what I found:

(1) A lot of teachers seem to prefer not getting school-related items.

(2) Gift certificates are always welcomed.

(3) Cards and letters with kind words written by the student are appreciated.

(4) Practical items like movie tickets, things to decorate their home with, etc. are good choices.

(5) Any personalized item is a big hit.

(6) Homemade baked items (yum!).

(7) Holiday candy, popcorn, cookies and other food items.

(8) Lotion, perfume, cologne, bath sets.

(9) Handcrafted items.

(10) Christmas ornaments.

Many teachers appreciate the gesture and are happy that the parents and students thought enough about them to be included on their gift list. After some thought I am leaning toward personalized items, except for the coach. There is a place in the mall that does personalized items relatively quick so I think tomorrow I will stop by and see what they have. Coach loves to eat so definitely some goodies for him.

What types of gifts have you given your child’s teacher (or plan to give this year)?
