Take a Look Inside Double Talk: Word Sense and Nonsense
Book Description
Double-Talk: Word Sense & Nonsense invites children to explore homophones and shows them that words can be fun. Pairs of deliberately ambiguous words are presented in rhyming verse and illustrations across thirteen double-page spreads. On each spread, the words may sound the same, but they are used to describe two very different images. Readers must study the art to see how the words relate to the pictures. Serious or silly? Sense or nonsense? Either way, the readers will learn to study words more carefully. With the simple surprises spelled out in the illustrations, the “I-get-it!” smile grows into a full-body giggle. This laughter-inducing book is ideal for young readers and the adults that love them. Grades Pre-K to 3.
My Thoughts
Double Talk: Word Sense and Nonsense is a fun book to share with your kids. It always causes plenty of laughter when I read it to my girls. I love that they will start to come up with their own word sense and nonsense. Books that inspire creativity are a must have in my book. It is a fun read that is reminiscent of Dr. Seuss for the nonsense and imaginative fun. The rhyming and illustrations bring the book alive. It quite simply is a fun read. It is also a book that will cause children laugh and engage in quite a bit of nonsense. But in this case, it is the good type of nonsense. It gets the kids interested in words and word meanings. I think I have read this book just about every night since I got it. I know it will be part of the fun bedtime memories I am building with my kids.
