Give Dad a Gift from the Heart

left

Or, at least one from the hands.

Father’s Day is Sunday, which means you are quickly running out of time if you are planning to craft dad a homemade gift.

If your dad is anything like mine, then he’s probably insisting that you don’t spend a single dime to honor him on Father’s Day. However, no self-respecting child or spouse is going to let dad sit empty-handed on such a special occasion.

Fortunately, there are a slew of simple craft projects even the tiniest hands can help create. The following Father’s Day gifts are inexpensive to craft, but they’re sure to make Dad feel like a million bucks when he opens them on Sunday.

Twig Frame

Materials:

Twigs

String

Craft glue

Photo of Dad and kids

Directions:

Collect about a dozen or so twigs and separate them into two bunches. The first bunch should be roughly two inches longer than your photo, while the second bunch should be approximately two inches wider than your photo.

Arrange twigs in a square or rectangle shape around your photo.

Use string to tie the corners of the twigs together in an “X” pattern.

Use glue to attach the photo to the back of the frame.

Make a loop from the string and adhere it to the top of the twig frame so that Dad can hang it in a special spot.

Decorative Can Cooler

Materials:

Plain Styrofoam can cooler/hugger

Alphabet foam stickers

Glitter

Sequins

Markers

Directions:

Spell out “Dad” using alphabet foam letters and attach stickers on can cooler. Next, have kids decorate remainder of the can cooler with shapes or words that represent Dad’s favorite hobbies. Embellish with glitter, sequins or markers for a personal touch.

Photo Book Ends

Materials:

2 wooden blocks (at least 6 inches high and wide)

Paint

Paintbrushes

Photos of Dad and kids

Scissors

Glue

Directions:

Trim each photo so it fits in the center of the wood block. Then, have kids decorate the wood blocks with paint and other embellishments, such as stamps, stickers or glitter glue. Once the paint has dried thoroughly, glue the trimmed photos to the middle of the wood blocks.
