This is a really simple, cute craft project, and Mom will love it. It’s a way to give her a little treat that she can enjoy while relaxing on her special day, or any time.
You will need construction paper or cardstock, tissue paper, scissors, glue, stuff to decorate with, and tea bags, packets of flavored coffee, or envelopes of hot cocoa. Add ribbon and flowers to decorate if you like.
Following the diagrams shown, trace the lower half of a circle onto a square piece of paper. You can use the lid from a margarine tub or small bowl. Cut around the lines you traced to make a round bottom. It’s already starting to look like a cup!
Print, trace, or draw a capital letter “D” on the same color paper. Cut it out and glue it to the cup shape. When it’s dry, trace your cup design onto another piece of paper. Attach both cup shapes together with glue or staples, leaving an opening at the top, like a regular mug.
Decorate the mug to make it as pretty as possible for Mom. Draw on it, add trims and ribbons, or glue on tiny flowers or sequins. Write “Mom” on the front in your best handwriting.
Scrunch up some tissue paper and tuck it into the mug, allowing some to poke out. Place tea bags or flavored coffee inside the cup, peeking out from the tissue paper.
Variation:
If Mom doesn’t drink a lot of hot beverages, and you think she would prefer a cold drink, use the diagram below. Cut out two drinking glass shapes and attach them together. Cut squares from white paper to look like ice cubes and glue them to the front piece, so they look like they’re peeking out of the glass. Add a straw for dimension. Decorate both sides of your drink glass, and put some scrunched up tissue paper inside. Instead of using tea bags, coffee, or cocoa, add packets of instant iced tea, Crystal Light, or any other cold drink that Mom enjoys.
