Being successfully married and having a family has a lot to do with priorities. In fact, happily and successfully living at all has much to do with what things we make most important in our lives.
If asked most people in the world (when answering honestly) would say that money is very important and precious in their lives. They would likely rank it among the very top when thinking about things that make one’s life happy and successful.
Until I was sitting in church one Sunday and heard a very special sermon, I too thought that money was probably the most valued by Americans.
However, I have now realized that besides our loved ones, there is one thing that most people will hold on to tighter than money. That one thing is time. When we look at most lives of American families, time is of the essence.
We are always looking at, checking, and watching our time. We do not have time to sit down and eat supper or breakfast together. We do not have time to sit and visit and simply talk. We do not have time to lay out under the clouds or stars. We do not even have time to politely let others in front of us on the road.
If you do not believe that time is more valuable to most than money, think about charities. Had most people rather donate their time and work in a shelter or write a check?
One of the most precious gifts in the world that you can give your spouse or significant other is your time.
I know that you have heard it said over and over again, but oh how true it is…
There are very few tombstones in the world that state, “here lies a good, devoted worker…”
There are also very few elderly people who will admit that they wish they had spent more time on the job.
