Do you have a problem finding balance? I do.
The other night after spending a fun weekend in the snow with my family and returning home about five p.m. I broke down. I mean really broke down, waterworks actually. You see, I had so much to get done. The house needed a little tidying up, dinner needed to be made and I had one hundred pages to read for my class and a presentation to prepare. There is always so much to do and never seems to be enough time to accomplish it all – without tears anyway!
As I sit here in my pajamas at six-thirty a.m. I am feeling pretty wiped out. I work full-time, have two-children and also go to school two nights per week in order to finish my Masters degree. Last night I had school. I got home at ten-thirty p.m. By the time I wind down and finally close my eyes it is after midnight. My husband awakes at five a.m. to get ready for his job which begins at six a.m.
My husband tells me that I am always searching for the perfect work/life/family/friend balance that just does not exist. I sometimes feel like I am teetering on the wire, in the air, on the bike and have to forge forward but can fall off at any moment. Do you ever feel that way?
Give yourself a break!
Prioritize the best you can.
Allow yourself a good cry from time to time.
Lean on those around you who can support you.
You can not do it all. You can not give one-hundred-percent to everything, it is just not possible. Sit back, take a nice bubble bath and breathe. Do the best you can. That is all any of us can do.
Now, I am going to take my own advice! It won’t be a bubble bath. In fact it will be a quick shower. Then I’ll get the kids ready for school and myself ready for work but I will try not to feel stressed along the way. Instead, I will enjoy the hour I have with the kids and prepare for a good, no tear day.
