You’ve been doing everything you can to live a frugal lifestyle, spending less or nothing at all on the things that you need, letting go of the things that you might want and putting in the effort to find new ways to save your hard earned money. Well, now I am about to say it: It is time to give yourself a break.
Letting go and indulging a bit is good for your finances ultimately because it helps you avoid the frugal fatigue that might otherwise set in. Having a little bit of planned indulgence, or a small break from frugal living can leave you refreshed and ready to get back to your plan. It might even give you a little bit of new inspiration to save even more money and work harder toward your goals.
So go ahead, find a way to give yourself a break, whether that is eating out an extra time this month, buying a small indulgence such as a book, a movie or an item of clothing, or giving yourself permission to toss (ack) the leftovers instead of trying to come up with a plan to incorporate them into another meal. Buy something without a coupon or make yourself an extra cup of coffee or use an extra teabag.
Trust yourself that you will get back to your plan when you are ready and not blow everything. If you have been living a frugal lifestyle for a while, you should be able to trust yourself with a little break. Plus, you may wind up finding out that the break wasn’t as much fun as you thought, reinforcing your confidence in the fact that you are doing the best for yourself and your family and being the best steward of your money.
Do you ever give yourself a little break from frugal living?
