The LDS church is unique in the fact that the leaders and teachers of the congregation all work on a volunteer basis. Almost every member has a calling to fulfill or a way that they help others in the ward. It may be for this reason that we often neglect to express appreciation to those who serve us. It may be that you are so busy fulfilling your calling that you forget those around you who are serving as well.
It is important to express your thanks for a job well done through out the year. If someone has gone out of their way you may want to send them a short note of thanks. It would also be a nice gesture to have your Primary children write thank you notes to their teachers at the end of the year. These notes would be cherished. I know that my daughter loves the Primary teachers she has had. It wouldn’t be hard for her to say thank you with a little note.
It is important to remember all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. The bishop and his counselors (as well as executive secretary and clerks) spend countless hours in meetings, and taking care of crises as they arise. The Relief Society president and her counselors also see to both the temporal and spiritual needs of the ward. The other auxiliary presidencies spend a great deal of time ministering to the needs of those under them, as well.
This year I am very thankful for a loving nursery leader who has taken my son under her wing. He is so small for his age, but I know she watches out for him, and helps him to feel welcome. I am also grateful because I am enjoying Relief Society again. Each and every teacher reaches out each week. The seeds they plant are very important.
If you are grateful for someone this year, do not hesitate to express your gratitude, through a note, a plate of cookies or a simple thank you. This simple appreciation can help all the hard work they do each year worth it. Even if you do not have anything specific to be grateful for, it is nice to let someone else know you recognize the hard work that he has put into his calling.
