As a moderator to a few message boards, I often see people say “email me with more info!” Ohh! This is not a good idea for many, many reasons.
1.)Spammers. Email harvesters spend time combing message boards looking for email addresses to add to their list to either spam or sell. All that means for you is more junk mail.
2.)Solicitors. Now you have invited anyone and everyone to solicit you with their information. These people will email you once hoping you’ll respond. Though some of what you get will be legit, you will get a ton of scams sent in your box as well.
3.)Recruiters. I will admit, when I first started out, I was guilty of this as well. Now I only respond to someone if they contact me because I realize how rude it is. When someone sees “I want more info!” or “help!” they now assume that their business is perfect for you and have to make sure that you give them your time. This would be OK IF you were asking about makeup and got an email about a company that sells makeup. Chances are, you will hear about all different type of companies that have nothing to do with what you are searching for. In the “recruiters” mind their company is the best and you need to join them. Often, they are looking out for their best interests (obviously they didn’t read your post that said you are interested in makeup). Some of them are new consultants who don’t know better and are just excited.
Save your inbox from getting bombarded with email and spam. If something looks interesting, directly contact the person who has the info. You can often do this through a PM, or their website. If you can’t figure out how to email them, post a message asking for more info or for their website. Any legit business will have their number, email or a contact form on their site.
Here is to finding your dream job!
