Take a box of plain, matte finish ornaments and simply add small dots or designs with glue then cover the glue with fine glitter in the same color as the ornament. A little goes a long way. It’s an easy way to dress up inexpensive ornaments to give them a little more glamor. Also, try removing ornament hooks and using satin ribbon to secure ornaments instead. If you choose to fill a bowl with ornaments, add other baubles such as shiny strings of beads and colored glass stones to make the effect more dramatic.

Ditch the thin mints and the candy dish. Your cocktail table is craving something more decadent. While there are beautiful offerings available from your favorite retailers, you may find that antique shops offer something a bit more special. Intricately cut crystal bowls, plates, or parlor pieces, simply exude timeless elegance. Using mix and match styles and sizes of antique bar glasses will make an attractive ensemble when mingled together atop a satiny runner. 
Opt for chocolate covered espresso beans and other gourmet goodies to fill your gorgeous finds.
Color Counts
Consider using a stark backdrop and punctuating with vivid color. Black or white when brightened with bold punches of color will paint a dramatic picture. For a softer look, try mingling related colors together. Try champagne colored silk mixed with saffron gold and sage green satin.
