Globes Gone Swag Stays and Rumors Swirl Over Baby Harlow

When you tune in to watch the Golden Globe Awards tonight you won’t be treated to the traditional glitz and glam on the red carpet. Nor will you get to see stars dripping with jewels knock back glasses of champagne live during the swanky dinner party setting that is typically associated with the televised ceremony. Rather, because of the writers strike all you’ll see will be a few suits at a podium reading the names of winners during a no-frills news conference.

Despite the anticlimactic showing, gift suites remain in full swag. Which means Globe nominees (and would be presenters) still get to walk home with a ton of free and fabulously expensive items. Granted, some vendors did cancel because they felt uncomfortable due to the Hollywood writers strike. Meanwhile, other companies handing out free gifts revealed they would be donating a portion of their proceeds to the Writers Guild Foundation.

Regardless, rich stars were given access to a plethora of upscale wares yesterday, which included jewelry, evening gowns, eyelash extensions, books, appetite-suppressant lozenges, and climate-controlled pet carriers.

Don’t expect to see reality TV star Nicole Richie collecting swag this weekend. The new mom is reportedly at home caring for her newborn daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden.

Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden welcomed their bundle of joy into the world on Friday and since then the Internet has been buzzing about the name the couple chose to give their firstborn.

Some speculate the pair is following the new trend among young Hollywood types, to honor classic Tinseltown icons by naming their children after them. For example, Reese Withersoon and Ryan Phillippe and Jason Priestley and Naomi Lowde named their daughters Ava, supposedly after screen siren Ava Gardner. Greg Kinnear and wife Helen Labdon named their daughter Audrey perhaps as a nod to Audrey Hepburn. And Kevin Nealon and his wife named their son Gable… as in Clark Gable.

As for Richie’s little Harlow, while no confirmation has been made, you could assume the name was inspired by famous 1930s actress Jean Harlow. Patricia Arquette and husband Thomas Jane also named their daughter Harlow and actress Joely Fisher used Harlow as a middle name for her daughter True.

What do you think about the name Harlow? Like it or leave it?
