It isn’t easy to find something to eat for breakfast when you have a gluten-allergy. Toast, waffles, pancakes, and most cereals all contain gluten. What is left to eat? One option is the blueberry breakfast bars by Glutino. Here is my review of this easy to eat breakfast food.
Before I discovered that I had an allergy to gluten, I used to eat a lot of granola bars. Unlike many other types of breakfast foods, granola bars, and breakfast bars, do not require a lot of preparation before you can eat them. You don’t have to thaw them out, or cook them, or even wait for them to pop out of the toaster. Granola bars are easy to eat while typing, which, in my opinion, was another benefit.
Unfortunately, my favorite types of granola bars, (and breakfast type bars), all contained gluten. If you search around, though, you can find some that are gluten-free. The grocery store I shop at had two different flavors of breakfast bars by a company called Glutino. I believe it is pronounced something like: “Gluten? No!”. To me, this is entirely amusing!
I ended up selecting the blueberry gluten-free breakfast bar that is made by Glutino. Blueberries are tasty! They are said to contain antioxidants, and to help a person to lose weight. This seemed like an ideal choice of flavor.
The ingredients include: Blueberry filling (which is made up of sugar, glucose, apple powder, (calcium stearate), white grape juice concentrate, water, blueberries, glycerine, canola oil, citric acid, pectin, sodium citrate, fruit and vegetable extract for color, calcium chloride, and natural flavor. The “breading” contains chick pea flour, potato starch, fructose, pear juice concentrate, raisin paste, inulin, canola oil, tapioca starch, white rice flour, water and sodium bicarbonate.
According to the box, these breakfast bars are made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. You get five bars in each box. The box itself is made from 100% recycled fibers, (if you happened to want to know that). The box also says that this food is gluten and wheat free, cholesterol free, low fat, and a good source of fiber.
So, how do they taste? I like them. They smell and taste like blueberries. The bars are soft in texture, and do not crumble into bits when you bite into them (like some crunchier breakfast bars can do). They make a nice snack, but I am not certain that just one bar would make for a filling breakfast.
