Go Big With Giant Painting Projects!

color

Whether you follow a curriculum in the summer or just take it easy, these art projects are sure to be a hit!

So you love yourself a good wall mural, or perhaps your kids like finger painting. Those things are wonderful, but have you considered other great big painting options? Options that will make your kids go wild with glee? If you have a big batch of paper and some paint, try out some of these giant painting projects:

Slide painting. This is simple. You have a slide. You have some tape. You have a kid or two or three. Attach paper to the slide, and place objects in a bath of tempera paint at the top of the slide. Roll the objects down the slide, and they will make great tracks. You’ll have random paint art!

Ball painting. Do you love those silly little squishy balls that you find at the dollar store? They drive me mad, but I’d love them if they could be used to make art. Dip balls, sponges, and other squishy items in paint. Attach a piece of paper to the walls. Throw the balls at the walls, and see what wonderful splatters they make!

Foot painting. You’ve heard of finger painting, of course. What about foot painting? Set up stations with paint in them, some stations with water, and some towels to dry off. Put a piece of paper on the ground, and go wild with the foot painting! Tip: wash and dry your feet before running inside.

Painting with water pistols. Oh yeah. Summer means water pistols and water balloons. Combine them with painting for glorious fun. Add paint to a piece of paper that’s hanging on a wall, then blast it with water. Woo hoo!

Stump and tree painting. Is plain old paper getting a little boring? It’s time to start painting the landscaping. First, make sure the kids understand that painting the garden is something to do under adult direction, or you may have some wacky-colored roses in the near future. Next, get out some tempera paint and some water. Paint tree bark. Paint big leaves. If you can, get some rounds of a stump and paint those as well.

What painting shenanigans have you gotten up to?
