St. Patrick’s Day is less than 48 hours away and police from coast-to-coast are bracing for the madness. Law enforcement is on extra high alert since the holiday falls on a Saturday. Couple that with the fact that much of the country is experiencing unusually high spring temperatures and you’ve got a recipe for potential bedlam.
If you are looking for a way to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day without dealing with a bunch of drunks and delinquents, then consider hosting your own shamrock-themed shindig.
Here are some party ideas to get you started:
Costumes: What’s a St. Patrick’s Day party without a memorable green get-up? You don’t have to drain your wallet shopping for elaborate costumes at party stores. Rather, make your own using items found around the house. It’s easy to transform into a Shamrock King or Queen. For the former, simply pair a green jacket with a white shirt, and then add some matching green pants. Add a beard, white stockings and a large crown decorated with shamrock stickers and stamps to rule over your St. Patrick’s Day party guests. For the latter, find a flowing green dress and cover it with paper shamrocks, a shamrock tiara and a gold mask painted with more shamrocks. If you really want to go simple, then wear a green shirt that says, “Kiss Me I’m Irish” and accessorize with green and white striped socks and a glittery shamrock deely bopper.
Activities: If you are hosting a bunch of kids, consider organizing a St. Patrick’s Day treasure hunt. Give each child a green basket and have them search for gold foil-covered chocolate coins. Each player gets to keep his or her loot and the person who finds the most coins wins a lucky charm or temporary tattoos. Another fun activity is to have kids decorate cookies or cupcakes with green frosting and sugar shamrocks. If you are hosting an all-girl get-together, then stock a table with green nail polish and shamrock stickers and allow your female guests to go to town embellishing each other’s nails.
