Goals for a Clean House

It’s almost a brand new year, you know what that means, resolutions. Do you make resolutions? I do, I just try to call them goals instead of resolutions. I also follow the advice of stating my goals in a positive way, instead of saying I won’t or this year I quit, I say I will and this year I will. I tried stating it as something that has already happened but convincing myself that I was wealthy and self employed was a little difficult.
The list is long, but there is good stuff on it. I always reach high, if I don’t make all my goals I will still be a better person for trying.

One thing that is on my list year after year is to develop a better system of keeping the house clean. I love a clean house but don’t like being the one that has to keep it that way. Also, there really is no method to my cleaning madness. I clean when I have time and I can’t stand the mess anymore.

This year, I will stay on top of the mess!
Every day I will pick up and put away as I go. Laundry, dishes, books, shoes, coats. Everything will make its way to its home instead of being put down just anywhere “for now.” This includes touching the mail only once, making sure I deal with it as it comes into the house. Also no more piling- this creates clutter and clutter can easily overwhelm all my good intentions.

Every week I will set aside one hour to clean the house. I will set a timer and clean until it goes off, once it goes off, I’ll be done. I think I will do better with a concrete end time. I may not get everything done but one hour once a week beats nothing. I will also rotate food in the refrigerator when I go to the grocery store, this will keep the fridge from becoming out of control.

There will still be things to do, cleaning the blinds, organizing closets, but if the house is basically clean I will not feel so overwhelmed that I can’t even think about tackling a bigger project.

Wish me luck!
