Do you have your own domain? They’ve come down so much in price that people have them for a lot of different reasons. My extended family has one that lets us store addresses, keep up to date with each other’s news, and share photos. We have some future plans to expand it, but for now, it’s a nice thing to visit when we’re missing each other. You’re welcome to take a look.
My husband also maintains several websites for his music. It’s his passion, and something that is important to him. I also run our Scout Troop‘s site, and a few other family-related and interest-driven sites that generate passive income. There’s one thing that all these sites have in common: they’re all registered through GoDaddy. We’ve found their service to be excellent and their response time unequalled. Though it’s more cost efficient for us to host them all together on our own server, if you had only one or two sites, I’m sure their hosting service is just as good as their domain registration.
Even though domain registration is cheap, it’s not free. So any discount is very welcomed. Right now, if you spend $75 on any GoDaddy services, you can take $20 off. With close to twenty domain names, the discount makes it worth it for us to renew early.
If you don’t already have a site, did you know that you can build up your MySite here at Families? Simply click on your photo, then look at the box on the right hand side. You can add photos, journal entries, and much more. One of my favorite things is the ability to add friends and family. One of the big reasons I like this is that I can instantly see that my friend, Andrea, has commented on a new blog today. No searching needed, I can just go read it! Did LeeAnne post a new photo? It will automatically show.
The GoDaddy discount is a great deal! But if you’re just starting, you might want to fill out your MySite for now. It’s a great way for all of us to get to know each other.
