God’s Will: On the Road of Life

While on the telephone with my aunt, she shared with me an inspirational passage from a book she’s been reading from Karen Kingsbury’s Redemption series called Reunion. The character paints this picture of turning our will over to God like being a passenger in a car and allowing God to drive. Though we might not know whether He’ll go left or right, we know in the end we’ll arrive at our destination if we let him drive.

I was encouraged by the excerpt she read since it helped me put perspective on what it means to allow the will of God to happen in my own life. I find myself telling God I want His will in my life, but rather than turning the wheel over to Him, I continue to drive.

While I was listening to my aunt read, I thought about the different paths I have chosen in life. Have I taken detours I shouldn’t have? Most definitely! I know turning the “wheel” over to God doesn’t mean there won’t be construction ahead or a flat tire from time to time. I understand it’s God who’s in charge, not me! I need to grasp in my heart that no matter what happens along the way, He is in control and things are going to be okay. He is capable of helping me fix those flats and other problems that might arise.

As I’ve thought more about the excerpt my aunt shared I realize that wanting God’s will in my life shouldn’t be scary; it should be reassuring. God wants well for my life. He sees far beyond what I ever could. He knows the dark streets and the dips in the road. Why would I ever want to travel the road of life without Him?

All this reminds me of the song by Carrie Underwood called, “Jesus Take The Wheel”. These are the chorus lyrics:

Jesus take the wheel

Take it from my hands

Cause I can’t do this on my own

I’m letting go

So give me one more chance

To save me from this road I’m on

Jesus take the wheel
