GodTube and Other Christian Versions of Online Websites

Are you turned off by less than savory content on your favorite popular websites? Well, you may be surprised to know that the Christian community may just have a version of that same site out there on the Internet.

YouTube is a great source of entertainment and sometimes education. You can find un-aired pilots of your favorite shows, cute kids spitting up spaghetti and dads lamenting about how tough it is to get kids to go to bed. Chances are that if there is a topic you can think of, there is also a video about it. But one thing that YouTube doesn’t have is a uniquely Christian perspective on all of its subject matter. In steps GodTube to fill the void.

Chris Wyatt, the CEO of GodTube says that the website can reach more people on Sunday morning than he could have hoped to reach in a lifetime of pulpit appearances. The content on GodTube consists of videos, music, comedy and theological debate. There is the corny and the impressive, just as there is on YouTube. GodTube reviews every piece of content that is uploaded to the website and rejects anything with questionable content. Atheists and members of other religions are allowed to share their views on the website, as long as it is done respectfully and without proselytizing. There is no doubt, though that the preference seems to be strongly evangelical and biblical. Recent videos unclude “Mormonism Exposed” and “The papacy is NOT biblical.” There are currently 25,000 videos on the site.

And GodTube isn’t the only game in town, um, on the Internet. There is a growing number of religious versions of popular secular websites. MyChurch.org is the Christian version of MySpace.org, and Conservapedia is the established response to the encyclopedia website, Wikipedia.
