Are you ready to “go green” in 2010? It can seem like an overwhelming prospect since there are so many areas we could change. However, it’s really not necessary to undergo a complete lifestyle change in one day. Instead, take it step by step.
You can start with something as little as turning on the water only when you need it when brushing your teeth. That sounds so simple yet it is one small step. The next time you go grocery shopping pick up some canvas bags and use them instead. Again, you are taking another small step. The next time you need to replace your light bulbs pick up some compact fluorescent light bulbs. This is yet another small step, but notice how each step is adding up.
Some people make the mistake of thinking that in order to go green they have to employ drastic changes. There is no reason to be fanatical about it. Each small step toward going green helps.
When it comes to bigger changes, such as your vehicle or appliances, there is no reason to feel you must go out and buy a greener vehicle or appliance. However, when the time comes to replace a larger item, then you might consider opting for one that is more environmentally friendly.
Going green can also save you money, which is a definite benefit. For example, you can have your computer’s ink cartridge refilled instead of replacing it or consider using both sides of a piece of paper instead of just one side. These little savings, in time, can add up to more money in your pocket.
You can make 2010 your year to go green by taking it step by step. You might even want to make a list as you go along of all the small steps you have taken. Then, at the end of the year you will see that you have actually done quite a bit to help the planet.
