Every business is so different! With Discovery Toys, I only go postal about once a week. I try to get all my hostess packets together and send them out at once.
With Power Pops I have customers who want samples or orders practically daily so I’m often at the post office a few times a week.
Luckily I have a few post offices to choose from so I don’t go postal. My favorite one is close to my house and more of a neighborhood post office. I know all the employees and they are all friendly. If I need a piece of tape, they willingly offer one!
The big post office is located about 10 minutes away. I try to avoid this one. Though most of the employees are nice, they charge for tape! Actually they make you buy a roll of overpriced postal brand packing tape. Plus there are always long lines.
The third one is on the other side of town. It’s very small and the employees don’t smile as much. Plus, they are slower and there is not much parking.
I try to go the post office within 2 days of getting a request. Fast shipping is not only courteous, it shows GREAT customer service!
Here are some tips for “going postal”:
• Next time you are at the post office, grab different sized boxes and envelopes you might need. That way you can do everything at home.
• to Walmart and invest in packing tape.
• Make sure you correctly address everything!
• Get everything together when you go so you only have to go once a day or a few times a week.
• Pre-package anything you can so when you get an order or catalog request, you just have to put in a personal note and address it.
• Take advantage of printing postage online at Click and Ship.
• When you go to the post office, go early in the morning or early afternoon. Lunch time and after work are always the busiest.
• Be nice to your postal workers! They have a lot of postal customers to deal with, don’t be one of them.
