We need to find healthy alternatives for family meals in order to teach better habits and raise healthier families. I am always looking for ways to cut out the junk and add in quality ingredients. My family loves baked goods, pancakes, waffles and breads. All of those items have a hard time pretending to be healthy. You almost have to squint when you eat them embarrassed by all the white flour you are helplessly consuming. I could switch to whole wheat. I could even switch to half white and half whole wheat. I could but I won’t. I have tried and to be honest we did not enjoy the taste. I have been told that it is something to get used to but if that is the case just cross pancakes off my list. What about you, do you prefer the taste and texture of white flour over wheat? What if I told you that you did not have to sacrifice whole grains for the taste and texture of soft smooth white flour? Gold Medal has come out with Gold Medal White Whole Wheat flour!
It sounds like the answer but would the taste hold up? Would you notice a big difference in texture in pizza dough, muffins and cookies? I had my doubts but knowing Gold Medal White Whole Wheat Flour was made from hard white spring wheat and not the usual hard red spring wheat I decided to maintain an open mind. So, with recipe cards in hand we made the switch with pleasing results. Pizza dough, muffins, cookies, cakes, brownies, and breads all baked to perfection with a mild taste and texture. Whole grain can taste good to those of use hooked on white flour! Adding in the healthy grains without adding in a grainy taste is worth the switch from all purpose flour to Gold Medal White Whole Wheat flour. So, I can have my cake and eat it too!
