Good Ideas from Good Housekeeping

candles It is spring, and as you might have been able to tell from my recent blog posts, I am so ready to be done with winter and to get my home into shape. I have been perusing some household tips from older magazines that I bought in bulk at our local library (only $1 for a lot), and pulling out anything that seemed useful.

I have some tips from the magazine, Good Housekeeping that I thought were especially useful for this time of year. I am remembering them off of the top of my head, plus embellishing the tips to suit my own selfish needs, ha ha. I hope that you find these tips as helpful as I do.

Storing winter things

I have been giving our hall closet the evil eye. Although it is the first day of spring, the temperatures are still pretty low today, and our school bus lady even reported snow where she lives. Still, I will be glad to get the winter things put away.

First wash them all before you store them–this is something I always do, even if they don’t look dirty. Now here is the Good Housekeeping tip. Use the smaller winter things, such as hats, mittens and scarves to stuff into your handbags. The winter things stay clean and the bags can keep their shape. What a great idea.

Organizing keychain cards

It seems as though we have a loyalty car for practically every store. From the various grocery stores to our prescription card, these little cards that are supposed to go on your keychain just get in the way. Good Housekeeping suggests that you put them all on a separate ring and throw them in your purse. This way, the cards are organized, but yet they don’t get in the way when you don’t need them. Brilliant!
