Google Video: Is It the Next YouTube?

I have used YouTube for quite some time now to look at popular video around the web. It became a hobby for a little while amongst my friends to find funny video and email links back and forth. Last night I had a chance to take a look at google’s answer to YouTube, Google Video, and was actually pretty impressed with what I saw.

Last night I actually watched the series premiere of “The Class” a new comedy on CBS on Google Video. The actual show is not set to air until next Monday, but I was able to watch the full episode, without commercials last night on the internet complete with the ability to pause when I got a phone call and the ability to rewind if I missed something.

In addition to television shows Google Video also has the short funny and interesting videos that have become widely popular and distributed on the internet.

Google’s video site is divided up into several sections for easy navigation. There are sections for popular video, featured video, comedy, music, movie trailers, TV shows, and education.

While my episode of “The Class” was free there are some other television programs on the site that you can download for a small fee usually around $.99. There are episode of everything from Dora the Explorer to The New Adventures of Old Christine, with a little something for everyone.

Google Video is not a site I would allow a child to be on alone. While there are fun videos for kids like Dora the Explorer, there are also tons of videos that are rather inappropriate for younger children. If you plan on letting your child watch video off the site it would be a good idea to keep a watchful eye on what videos they select to watch and be nearby to stop them from viewing anything that might be inappropriate.

Video seems to be becoming a bigger and bigger deal on the internet. Do you think it’s a good thing?
