Grapple: Grape Flavored Apples

Grapple, pronounced “Grape-L”, is a sweet juicy apple with a grape flavor. Sounds a little crazy? Kids have a tendency to like crazy and this is one way to encourage good nutrition while satisfying little taste buds. With childhood obesity on the rise and French fry bags growing out of proportion, we need a healthy alternative. For so long children’s palettes have become accustomed to candy and sweets so making a change can be difficult. For a child resistant to give up sugary foods an alternative like Grapple would make a nice first step. For a child who already eats in a healthy way or loves fruit, Grapple will be a nice treat or dessert.

How did Grapple get the grape taste?

Grapple has no added sugar or calories. The apples are bathed in natural grape flavoring to infuse it with a fun grape taste. The apples are not altered genetically to achieve this taste.

Taste of a Grapple

Rainier Fruit Company and CMI, the producers of Grapples, allowed me the opportunity to taste test Grapples. I was very excited about this since I love to try new things. The first thing I noticed was the smell. They smelled like grapes! This made me giddy with excitement to cut it open. I had the pleasure of having two, 4 clamshell packs, of these apples. Each one was super juicy. They all had consistent flavor and quality of apple. The clamshell packs keep the apples safe during shipping. Oh yes, the taste. Believe it or not it tasted like grape candy. It was juicy, crunchy, sweet and grape. It was not as sweet as grape candy but it resembled it. I ate two apples right away before sharing with my kids. My favorite thing was the juicy crispness of the apples. The grape flavor is the added bonus. I then allowed my children to taste the apples. I had two dislike it and one love it. The two that disliked it are apple lovers and prefer to dip their apples in Nutella and claimed the Grapple clashed with the Nutella. However, chocolate covered grapes are quite popular in some regions of the country. Yes, I’m in the Grapple corner. As a mom, I am totally in love with a product that is natural and satisfies a sweet tooth. My child who liked it is a candy expert. I did consider baking an apple pie with them but thought that may be too weird. I would love to hear from you if you tried it!

Final Analysis

I think most children will enjoy Grapples. The apples were of fine quality and as I mentioned a few times juicy and crisp! The grape flavor will appeal to those children who are craving a piece of candy. Do not get the wrong impression that the sweetness is overwhelming. It is distinct and has a grape candy flavor but the juiciness of the apple keeps it from being sickening. I say give it a try since you really should eat an apple a day
