In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I decided to think about all the things that I am grateful for about my job as a Mother to my sweet little baby. Yesterday, one of my older children was sick. I had very little sleep, and had been up since about 2 am. Needless to say, I was pretty grouchy when the sun started to rise and I had to continue on with my daily duties as a Mom. But, then my baby woke up. I walked into his room, and he smiled at me (like he always does). I thought to myself, “What would I do without those baby smiles today?”
So, the top of my list of things I’m grateful for in my little babe is his infectious smile. It can make anyone happy. Even a grouchy Mama with very little sleep. But, it started me thinking about all the things that my little guy does that I’m thankful for. Here’s a short list. There really are so many.
Giving him a bath. He loves it, and laughs and kicks like he is having the time of his life. I love bath time as a result.
His newfound love of games. His most recent one is when I get him out of his crib after a nap, he hands me his blankets. Then, I hand them back. He thinks this game is hilarious. And, it always makes me happy.
He helps me to remember that life is fun. Everything is a toy to him. He finds joy in the tupperware cabinet. He thinks giant bowls are actually cups.
Watching him discover something new. Like discovering that he really likes the snow.
Listening to him try and talk. My little guy talks non-stop. Much more than my other babies did at this age. If only I knew what he was trying to say. But, half the fun is carrying on these little conversations that we both love, but perhaps neither one of us understand.
Teaching him….well, everything! Being a mother is a hard job, but it is also a rewarding one to teach your baby new things every day.
I am so grateful for this baby in my life. Having a baby in your home is a good reminder of all the good there is in this world and that we all have something to be grateful for.
