I wouldn’t consider myself someone who enjoys roughing it. However, when I lived in Atlanta there were times I got tired of city living and longed for a nature escape. If you are live amidst urban chaos then you too might benefit from some rural R&R in a scenic pastoral setting. And if you act now you can take advantage of some great deals being offered by various rustic lodgings throughout North America.
Take a look:
Vermont
Nothing says peace and quiet than the bucolic charms of southern Vermont and the award-winning Deerhill Inn. The property is decorated in what the owners describe as “eclectic country” style complete with antique rocking chairs, hand-sewn bedspreads and various other country inspired knickknacks. All 14 rooms also feature designer linens, luxe toiletries and high-tech perks like wireless Internet access. But what drives most visitors to make the trip to the cozy Vermont hideaway is the fact that the Deerhill Inn serves up the most indulgent breakfasts and dinners. Winter rates start at just $130 per night for a standard double. You’ll have to pay $240 for a two-room garden suite.
British Columbia
Located on the western edge of British Columbia is the stylish and rustic Wickaninnish Inn. The award-winning property provides top-level luxury accommodations in a remote setting. Wickaninnish is consistently ranked as one of the top inns in North America and does so by bringing the outdoors in. For example, the inn’s art, furnishings, architecture, and building materials are all made of natural materials. But, you won’t feel as though you are roughing it. The inn offers an upscale restaurant and a spa that features a range of signature holistic treatments. Prices for a single room start at $260 per night through the end of February—that’s half the normal rate.
Tennessee
Foodies looking for a rural escape typically book rooms at the Blackberry Farm. The country lodging is known for its gourmet cuisine and its peaceful setting in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain. Blackberry is a true working farm steeped in Appalachian tradition, and prides itself on its culinary excellence. Nightly rates in one of the 65 plush units start at $745, with three meals and pantry snacks. A two-night stay is required. The $372 per person rate may seem steep, but for that price you will experience luxury rooms and gourmet meals beyond compare.
