Green jobs are growing. And even when the job listing isn’t specifically green, in the business world, employers are looking for job applicants that are knowledgeable in sustainability. Where do they get all of these candidates? From green MBA programs of course.
Green degrees, while not as common as one is let us say, English Literature, are becoming more and more available. So far, most of these programs are primarily being offered by business schools under MBA programs.
The curriculum for a green business degree combines leadership in sustainability, along with old fashioned, or should I say traditional, business training, that offers students the opportunity to become leaders in the emerging requirements of a green economy. The difference between a traditional business degree and one that focuses on green living is a grounding in environmental issues.
Getting a green degree does not mean that a student is only prepared for green jobs. As mentioned above, many businesses are looking for employees that can lead the charge in green living and sustainability at the office. Of course, as more and more green jobs become available, students with a green degree are most qualified for these positions.
Many schools offer a joint three-year degree that combines a traditional MBA degree with a masters degree in a green specialization, such as environmental studies, effectively give two master degrees at the same time.
So where can you find a school that offers a green degree? Usually the business schools with the best reputations offer the most innovative business programs, including ones in sustainability. But don’t rule out lesser known schools. Stanford has a good program, but so does The University of North Carolina. You can even get an online green MBA from Anaheim university.
Of course, there is also green coursework and degrees available in the science sector.
