Mother’s Day is this Sunday and the good news is that if you don’t have a gift yet, you still have a few more days. If you have been reading my Green Living Blogs (and if you haven’t, why now?), you may be thinking all on your own “Hey, maybe I should go green with my Mother’s Day gift this year.”
But, you may not know where to start and that is where I come in. Here are a few suggestions to show mom you love her while still being eco-friendly.
Chocolates
If your mom isn’t watching her weight (or if she is but still loves gifts of chocolate anyhow), give her some organically grown chocolate from a vender that practices fair trade. Places like Equal Exchange, Dagoba, and Divine Chocolate are all places to start on your search for a chocolate gift for mom.
Non-toxic Cleaners
That’s right – cleaners for Mother’s Day. Now mind you, this is probably a better gift for the already eco-minded mother, but what better gift to give the person that gave birth to you than the gift of health by giving her cleaning products that won’t harm her (or the environment)?
Reusable Totes
These are great for moms, especially the ones like mine that still gets paper or plastic at the grocery store and has a thousand of these bags lurking in her pantry. You could pick up the bags at the local grocery store and fill them with treats. Or, just look online for reusable totes to find something really cute.
Take Mom out to Dinner
Yes, there is always the reliable standby of taking mom out to dinner for Mother’s Day. But this year, you might consider looking around your town to see if there is a restaurant that uses locally grown food. I ate lunch at a restaurant here in Memphis that does and the food was fantastic.
So there you go, just a few ideas of how to make your Mother’s Day green.
