Kids love sock puppets. They are easy to make and we all have some old socks laying around. Just throw on some googly eyes and poof! You have a new little friend for your little one. You can make these as simple or elaborate as you want. You can add little antennas and turn your friend into a bug, add some little ears and make yours a puppy, the sky is the limit. While these do make great toys, they also can serve a much higher purpose.
Logan had an imaginary friend named Greta. He played with her, talked with her; she was always with him wherever we went. One day we decided to bring Greta to life. We grabbed some googly eyes, added a little yarn for hair, and in no time we had our friend Greta right there on Logan’s hand. Logan now had his own little best friend that he could talk to whenever he wanted. Sometimes it is hard for our kids to talk to us about how they are feeling, especially following a divorce. They may be feeling angry and hurt by the situation. Instead of coming to you about these feelings they can now tell them to their new friend.
Believe it or not this isn’t all Greta is good for! Ever have those days when you’ve asked your child to pick up their toys ten times only to come back and find that they are still scattered all over the floor? Try having your sock puppet ask instead! If Mom asks where is the fun in that? If Greta asks? Well that’s a different story! They are much more inclined to do what their little friend says than what their parents are trying to say. You can even hand over the sock puppet and have their friend help them clean up the room. That way the job is still getting done, but you’ve added just a touch of fun for all to enjoy!
