QFC (Kroger in some areas) is consistently higher than the other stores in my area. I shop there for two reasons: they have great loss leaders, and their customer service is miles ahead of the Safeway in our town.
I picked up Mentos at 10/$10. Why Mentos? It’s a homeschool thing. Have you seen the videos of the Eepybird guys exploding them in Diet Coke? I have a budding scientist who has been dying to try it. Five packs of Mentos (mint flavor only) and some diet soda also on sale at 10/$10, and it’s pretty cheap entertainment for a teenager. The only other thing worth making the trip across the street is a tailgating promotion going on. This one is Washington-specific, for obvious reasons. Let me know if there’s something similar in your area. Purchase $75 worth of participating products and get a free Seahawks hoodie. Gatorade’s one of those products and is on sale for $1 apiece. Paul runs marathons and downs the stuff, so I’m buying it anyway. I’m buying it smart, though. The promotion is good through September 11. I just ordered some coupons from a service that will give me .30 off each of them (less the nickel handling charge), so for $68.25 I’ll pick up 75 bottles of Gatorade and a hoodie.
Ordering the coupon after finding out about the sale can be risky. Coupons get lost in the mail or the sender doesn’t mail them out in a timely fashion. I have a few clippers that I’m very pleased with and am willing to take a chance on. It’s one reason it’s important to go through your ads on the first day they come out. I love to sit at my computer with the Albertson’s ad and wade through the coupon offerings. Albie’s always has more on sale than other chains. It can actually be daunting sometimes to figure out the best deals and combinations, but it’s absolutely worth it. If I haven’t received my coupons and it’s a really good deal, I’ll go on the last night the sale is on. Since our store is pretty busy, they often run out of the sale items after the third or fourth day. Rainchecks are your friend!
