The relationship between fitness and health is well documented. You certainly don’t need me to tell you that. People who exercise regularly tend to be healthier than their more sedentary counterparts. Why is that? Well a person who exercises regularly usually has a stronger heart. A stronger heart equals a healthier heart. You are more efficient in your oxygen intake and since your heart’s primary function is to get your blood circulating and oxygen delivered to all parts of your body – the fitter it is, the better a job it does.
Stronger muscles are another sign of a healthier body. When you exercise regularly and especially when you engage in strength training, you build up your endurance and your personal strength. Muscles also burn more calories than fat, which means you encourage a healthier overall body weight and a more nutritious mindset when it comes to eating. All of these things point to a healthier lifestyle and health is health.
Regular exercise increases your flexibility and this flexibility can help reduce your chances of injury to joints. Anyone who’s ever wrenched their knee or pulled a shoulder can attest to how crippling these types of injuries are. They are also really easy to do if your body is strong and flexible. Moms especially notice joint aches when they are constantly reaching down to pick up their children, carrying them around, doing household chores and much more.
Finally, regular exercise and fitness just make you feel good. Yes, your immune system is boosted and yes you are sleeping better – but exercise also releases endorphins and these are your body’s natural way of making you feel excellent. When you feel good about one aspect of your life, it begins to color the other parts of it too. Fitness – regular exercise, good nutrition and regular sleep all combine to make you a healthier – and happier – person.
