Half truths can be dangerous. They can be just as dangerous as an out and out lie, maybe even more so.
The half truth is often one that casts doubt on God, or in some way waters down the message of the gospel, or the image of the God of the bible making Him into more human image. The half truth talks about God as being a God of love and while that’s certainly true, it’s not the whole truth. He is also a God of judgment. The half truth insists a God of love would never consign people to hell. This not what the Bible teaches. Look at John 3:16-18. It’s pretty plain. Those who don’t believe in Jesus are condemned.
Don’t believe me about God being God of judgment? Take time now to look up some of these verses, Exodus 6:6, Exodus 12:12, Psalm 1:5, Psalm 143:2. Ecclesiastes 3:17, Ecclesiastes 12:14, Isaiah 66:16, Daniel 7:22, Malachi 3:5 and there are many more.
But some people feed us the lie that since Jesus came to earth God has changed. That’s not the picture I get from these New Testament verses, Matthew 5:21-22, Matthew 11:22, Matthew 12:36, John 5:22, John 9:39, John 16:11, Romans 2:2-3, Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 2 Thessalonians 1:5, Hebrews 6:2, Hebrews, 9:27, James 4:11, 2 Peter 2:9, Revelation 14:7. Again this is just a few. There are many more. It is theme that runs through the entire bible.
The half truth is tactic Satan often uses, to lull people into a false sense of security. Another half truth is that Jesus was a good man but not God. Jesus is both fully human and fully God. That is why He could take the penalty for our sins, because He was without sin. He is the Savior God promised way back in the in Genesis 3:16 and in the rest of the Old Testament. He is the king who because of what He suffered and has been given the name that is above all names and to whom all will bow, Philippians 2:5-11.
Don’t be fooled by half truths. But look at the full counsel of the Bible.
