Halloween Books = Amazing Alternative to Candy

left

Believe it or not, 100 Grand Bars, Laffy Taffy and candy corn are not the only treats that scream, “Halloween!”

If you are looking for a sugar-free/fat-free/calorie-free/peanut-free/gluten-free goodie to give kids on All Hallows’ Eve, consider Mia: Time to Trick or Treat!

The adorable and affordable children’s book (it retails for less than $5) is an amazing alternative to candy and can be passed out as a Halloween party favor, a prize for a costume contest, or used to spice up your kid’s bedtime story collection.

There’s nothing like a little seasonal spice to get youngsters excited about reading, and Mia the cat is one feisty feline. She’s determined, enthusiastic, and spontaneous. In other words, she’s a character most kids can relate to.

Another bonus about Mia: Time to Trick or Treat! is that while the book has a clear Halloween theme, the story incorporates lessons kids can apply year-round.

For example, the book starts with Mia convincing her BFFs–Anna the hippo and Ruby the giraffe–that they should trick-or-treat together dressed up as matching ballerinas.

“Perfect!” says Anna. “Let’s be blue ballerinas. Blue is my favorite color.”

“What about green?” says ruby. “I like green best.”

But Mia doesn’t want to be a blue ballerina or a green ballerina. She wants to be a pink ballerina.

“I have a better idea,” Mia says. “Let’s be pink ballerinas!”

Anna and Ruby frown.

The girls don’t know what to do. They want to match, but they can’t agree on a color.

Through the course of the book, Mia and her friends learn about friendship, being respectful of others’ ideas, and the art of compromising.

I won’t give away the surprise ending, but rest assured it’s as delightful as the book’s interactive bonus.

Author Robin Farley and illustrators Olga and Aleksey Ivanov gift their fans with an entire page of stickers which they can use to dress-up special Mia, Anna and Ruby figures located at the back of the book.

Your little bookworms will be wowed by the sticker dress-up feature, the rich drawings filled with eye-popping details, and the story’s colorful ending.
