Halloween Candles for Decorating

cheap halloween decorationsI love candles! They are probably my favorite “year-round” decorations. I have them everywhere, in almost every room. Some just sit by themselves and others have fancy holders or plates they sit in or on.

Most people only associate candles on Halloween with pumpkins that have been carved, and although that’s true and a great way to use some, there are still other ideas to use them.

Here is an extremely frugal idea, that is nice for adults who celebrate Halloween. Not all of us “love” all the spooky decorations and costumes at Halloween time. In fact, I prefer decorations I can leave up all season, and not take down three weeks after I put them up. So I started a new tradition several years ago and it’s a festive way to decorate on a low budget.

First, gather up all your candles you have around your house. See how many you have. You’re going to want dozens and dozens of them to create the mood.

Next, purchase any candles you can find on clearance, the dollar store or wherever else you can find candles cheap. All sizes, shapes, textures.

Halloween colors are great, but so are autumn colors. It really doesn’t matter what colors you use because it will be dark. But during the daylight hours you want the candles to look nice.

Next hit a dollar store. You should be able to find some CHEAP Halloween bowls, cups or plates. Pick what you like. Avoid paper and plastic, go for the cheap ceramic stuff. Purchase several, in various sizes if they have them. They should have all sorts of things you can use.

When you get home, place the candles together in clusters in/on the plates, mugs, cups and bowls.

Place them all over the house. In every room, with an emphasis on your main living room or the area closest to the front door.

On Halloween night, you can light them up, and turn the lights out and guess what? You have an “elegant” spooky atmosphere. When you open up your door on Halloween, it’s pitch black with a spooky light.

Strangely this also gets me in the mood for Christmas!

Do you enjoy decorating with candles? Have any tips or ideas to share?
