Are you getting excited about Halloween? It’s never too soon to start working on decorations, so here we go!
This is an easy craft but it’s also cute and it makes fun decorations for your home or yard. All you need to get started is some large wooden spoons. Pick different sizes or those with different length handles for added effect. Make sure they are narrow, cylindrical handles instead of the wide flat ones.
You can use felt, white washcloths, or any white fabric you have handy. Try adding lace over the fabric for extra interest. Cut out large squares of fabric, about 12” square should be good (you can go bigger if you like, or if you have long handled spoons).
Glue cotton balls or fiberfill to the basin of the spoon. When dry, cover the spoon tip with the fabric, making sure one of the corners points down in the front. Tie a piece of string, yarn, or ribbon tightly around the bottom of the spoon basin, where the handle begins.
Glue on some googly eyes, or draw a face. Make them cute, scary, or funny. You can also paint the handles of the spoons and use yarn in a mathcing color to tie at the “neck.” These spooky spoons can be used as ghost puppets or you can place them in a vase or sticking up out of a planter for decorations. Make a bunch in different sizes and have them sticking up at different angles.
For outdoor use, try white plastic bags instead of fabric and proceed as directed above. You can stick your spooky spoons into planters, flower boxes, or into the ground for outdoor holiday decorating. Use big spoons and make several ghosts so you can line the path up to your door.
*Never leave small children unattended with plastic bags.
