Saturday is Sweetest Day, so why not take advantage of the holiday by giving your love a squeeze at a spooky Halloween event? After all, nothing says amore like a Halloween Frightfest filled with thrills and chills, that’ll have your sweetie running to snuggle in your arms.
The following spooktacular travel sites are waiting for fresh blood this weekend:
It may look like Dracula’s castle, but the former Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield is far creepier. The popular haunted house boasts more than 50 demons and devils breaking out of rusted cells along with big-budget special effects, elaborate sets, and loads of creepy creatures. The old reformatory is where “The Shawshank Redemption” and several other movies have been filmed, but during Halloween, guests are allowed to tour the basement morgue freely for a truly frightening experience.
On the edge of downtown Kansas City, possessed tractors take visitors on hayrides to different haunted attractions where 150 actors and animals roam about. The animals include pythons, an anaconda and a live alligator. For an added scare, headless horsemen gallop on the streets as you walk by.
At Netherworld in Norcross, Ga., near Atlanta, giant animatronic monsters that are 20 feet tall greet visitors as they enter the creepy quarters.
Meanwhile, the haunted house at Eastern State Penitentiary in downtown Philadelphia has its share of super spooky scenes. Old cellblocks are turned into torture chambers while other areas feature graffiti and ghoulish characters. Near the end of the attraction, visitors are given flashlights, and they must find their own way out — with a few surprises along the way.
Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville is another place you can get your scare on during the month of October. The former tuberculosis hospital is perched eerily atop a large hill and features a “body chute,” an underground tunnel used to transport bodies out of the building.
